How is Ahmadinejad the President of Iran?

The people of Iran obviously did not like him as president, as witnessed this past summer. Then how did he win a 2nd term of presidency.

3. The peoples election in Iran has no actual affect on the outcome. Much like our electoral college system, especially the "super-delegates". The popular election in Iran only exists to allow the religious leadership to see who the people would prefer before making their own decision, and then stamping it with the seal of God's approval.

5. what ever the people or indeed even the president wants doesn`t really have much bearing over there as at the end of the day ALL important decisions are made by the Ayatollahs
