President Iran

Will sanctions and diplomacy ultimately work in preventing Iran from becoming a nuclear power?

Almost no one denies that Iran's goal is to become a nuclear power. Some say it could happen in as little as 3 years. Other experts think it will take more like 10-15 years. Will diplomatic efforts, and sanctions (if need be) work to stop Iran from reaching this goal?

  1. I hope so, but I'm not optimistic.
  2. Iran does not speak diplomacy and believe sanctions do not apply to them. So no.
  3. I think that whole area should be nuclear free zone including Israel
  4. It did not work on Iraq nor Iran. The reason why they join the UN is so that they have an ally. Really? Do you think people want to hate each other and fight with other? No, however, they want to get away with things though, and not play by the rules.
  5. Of course not.
  6. Yes but then again iran usually hates to be diplomatic with us..
  7. No, not as long as the current government is in power. I do not believe the Iranian People want any part of a confrontation over nuclear power, but then one can always be wrong! I don't think that the diplomats are going to be able to come to any agreement anytime soon as long as the current government is in power in Iran. And let's not forget that we currently do not have the leadership required to bring the current stand off to a peaceful conclusion that will benefit either the American People or the Iranian People; facts that cannot be ignored!
  8. No, because the bottom line is that Iran wants to become a nuclear power only to provide itself with some leverage. All the current interaction between the USA and Iran is simply smoke and mirrors. There's a power vacuum in the Middle East with the US and Iran jockeying for top dog. With the US hunkered down in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Iranians feel they have an excellent chance to become the power broker in the region. The US will eventually pull out of Iraq, which gives the Iranians even more incentive to go for it. Possession of the "Bomb" will assist in that endeavour. Remember this: Iran is predominately Shiite. It is the predominately Shiite majorities in several Middle Eastern countries (including Iraq) who are encouraging Iran to take on the leading role. Remember this also: The Iranians know very well that one move toward using a nuclear weapon will leave them with one huge parking lot. All the movers and shakers know this, so the whole nuclear bomb uproar is simply not a factor. However, it sells newspapers and keeps the American public supporting the industrial military complex..
  9. No, and threatening to attack them will just make them more determined to protect themselves. They can still remember what it was like under the USA installed Dictator Shah Reza Pahlavi when they had US trained death squads to deal with. They have also seen unarmed states like Iran and Afghanistan invaded while USA only started to negotiate honestly with North Korea after they detonated a bomb.
  10. No it will not. Appeasement once started does not ever end and in the end Iran will have a nuclear bomb if it does not already which i believe it does. And we will have given them billions and more than likely funded the creation of the weapon.
  11. Sanctions mostly effect people rather than officials. So I say no it won't work.
