30 years: 20 of them under Republican presidents (8 years Reagen, 4 years Papa Bush, 8 years Dubya); and Iran is still thumbing its nose at America. Why? Let's see: Under 20 of 30 years of Republican presidents, America has invaded Granada, Panama, Somalia, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Iraq twice, contributed heavily to the Afghan Mujihideen, and to the Contras---some with money illegally raised by selling American weapons to the Iranians. Clinton too, lobbed a few 10's of Tomahawks at the Mid-East and Central Asia, and bombed the crap out of Serbia. Yet from some here, I hear whines about Carter and the Dem congress. FYI, Carter did try to rescue them by military means, and with the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, started aid to the mujihideen and boycotting the USSR---angering US farmers; nor has the Congress been controlled by Dems, particularly in the last 14 years, with many Dem being either hawkish (e.g Clinton), or timid with the Republicans (e.g. Polosi). You have to do better than that. As for solutions I have none, save if you're gonna trash talk the Iranians (Axis of Evil), you should back it up. (As a Libertarian, I believe we should never have been politically involved with the Mid-East, Central Asia, or pretty well any other country.)

- Ask Jimmah.
- End Times Bible prophesy is being fulfilled. Peace
- Because the US is not in charge of Iran. They have their own government, their own culture, their own agendas. If it helps make it any clearer, we had republican presidents for those 30 years, and we still have liberals in this country. If presidents were all-powerful like liberals seem to think they are, don't you think the conservative presidents would have done something about the liberals?
- and for another 30 years, Iran will continue to thumb its nose at us.............unless we use the only language they understand!
- Because of Jimmie Carter
- and it will still be thumbing its nose following a hypothetical Obama administration too.
- Because of what Carter did prior to Ronnie getting in office. Remember Ted Koppel's Nightline started as a timeline when the hostages were taken.
- Because of Democratic controlled Congresses and Dems kicking and crying like little babies every time we want to make a strong stand against a Hostile Govt..
- Iran has been and to this day, still is thumbing its' nose at the World, not just the USA. Iran and its' Nuclear push is a WORLD PROBLEM.
- What would you do?
- And the winner is Jimmy Carter. That peanut whiz that could not stomp them out in the beginning. Now too many liberals roam around congress and tell the world this country is too divided to put up a good fight. If as much effort was spent building this country as is spent tearing it down life could be better for everyone. You forgot that Clinton did not take the time from servicing Monica to knock off Osama Bin Laden when he had the chance. That really helped build disrespect for this country.
- Because it can. No one with any gray matter wants to start WWIII and Ahmadinejad is waiting for someone to knock the chip off his shoulder.
- OOOoooo..... Very, very good question!! OK. So what do you propose?
- Jimmy Carter gave them the balls and gravitas to stand up to us. If Carter had clown stomped them when they took our people hostage, we would not have this mess that we have today. Instead, he screwed around for over a year, allowing them to build a concensus and organize themselves. Since then, they have built up their infrastructure so that an armed conflict would be very costly. The UN is passing resolution after resolution, sanctions, and spouting firm words. Iran is of course, totally ignoring them (sound familiar?). I don't think that Bill Clinton ever mention Iran in his 8 years. All the time, EVERYONE in the world new Iran was funding, training, recruiting, and arming terrorists throughout the world. Heck, they didn't even make a secret of it. The constantly preached Jihad from the mosques, in their papers, from their Presidents, and on their news shows. Now you complain. But are you also screaming that Bush will start a war with them before he leaves office? What exactly do you want us to do? Do you wish us to continue as we are, that is let the UN handle them. Or do you wish us to be more confrontational? I will tell you what will NOT work: Trying to make peace with them. They don't want peace, they don't want our respect, they don't want our trade, our goods, our music, our movies. They want us converted or destroyed. And if you don't believe that, you have not been paying attention for the last 25 years. You did know that the President of Iran was one of the students who took our diplomatic personnel hostage, right?
